Jimmy Hogan

1882 - 1974
Soccer Pioneer

Jimmy Hogan is the great pioneer of soccer. Unlike his English contemporaries, he focused on technical skill development and short passing. He spread this aesthetic style across Europe, including Austria where he helped Hugo Meisl develop a technique for "dispensing with aerial passing and placing emphasis on groundwork."

Under Hugo Meisl "soccer became almost an exhibition, a sort of ballet, in which scoring goals was no more than an excuse for the weaving of a hundred intricate patterns."

Michael has a National A license and started AFFC in 2007 with the goal of helping a new generation of players discover the joy and value of improving their soccer technique.

Possession

The foundation of Acadia Fire's soccer playing style is ball possession. Players learn specific dribbling and passing techniques that help them feel comfortable with the ball, especially under pressure.

Goal scoring

Acadia Fire practices have a strong emphasis on learning how to score goals, with a special focus on shooting with the instep. Players practice 1v1 dribbling moves and creative, attacking tactics that create goal scoring chances.

Speed & Strength

Fitness training is an essential aspect of Acadia Fire's program. Players practice correct sprinting form and engage in age-appropriate strength, endurance and agility training that is specific for playing soccer. Periodic testing assesses player progress.
